Among the excelleant teachers that make up the Copley Teachers Association, these individuals have attained the highest achievement possible in the teaching field. National Board certification is a rigorous and voluntary process for teachers. From the Ohio Department of Education:
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) has as its mission to establish high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do, to develop and operate a national, voluntary system to assess and certify teachers who meet these standards, and to advance related education reforms to improve student learning in American schools.
Since inception of the program in Ohio in 1993 through 2008, more than 2,900 Ohio teachers achieved National Board certification.
National Board Certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession. A voluntary process established by the NBPTS, certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that typically takes more than a year to complete.
Teachers who earn this advanced teaching credential are among the best qualified in the nation to improve instruction, raise student achievement and improve teaching practices in their classrooms, schools and districts.
