Press Release - OEA calls on Ohio Senate to do the right thing and oppose veto override![]()
The Ohio Education Association is highly disappointed in the 61 Ohio House members who voted to hurt Ohio’s public school students and communities Monday by voting to override Governor Mike DeWine’s responsible veto of a short-sighted property tax measure in the state budget that eliminates certain kinds of levies many school districts rely on to maintain long-term financial stability. Ohioans are now counting on the members of the Ohio Senate to do what is right for the nearly 90 percent of students who attend Ohio’s public schools and oppose this veto override.![]()
“Although the Ohio House is trying to ram through half-baked band-aid fixes that could force school districts across the state to increase class sizes and cut programs students need to succeed, the Ohio Senate has the opportunity to serve the people of our state with integrity and strength by allowing Governor DeWine’s veto to stand.”![]()

OEA’s unequivocal is opposed to House Bill 335 which proposes to make extensive changes to Ohio’s property tax system. If enacted, these changes will result in a significant loss of revenue for school districts and other local government entities causing a serious disruption in essential programming Ohio’s students, families, and communities expect and need.
OEA President Scott DiMauro will be on the panel for a town hall event in Reynoldsburg on the potential harm that HB 335 would cause for our schools and local communities. Other panelist include Reynoldsburg Mayor Joe Begeny, Rep. Meredith Lawson-Rowe, Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano, and Bailey Williams from PMO.
